Note: There are no proven methods that make sure common cold can be prevented. Unfortunately there are no vaccine available that can too prevent common cold. However, It's spreading can be minimized by following steps.
Prevention Of Common Cold
1. Wash your hands often
This is the effective method that can prevent common cold to great extent. Washing hands will remove dirt and bacteria that can cause infection when you touch your mouth, nose, eyes or even ear. Try to wash hands with anti-septic soap which can kill germs and protects for hours from germs.
2. Get enough sleep
You don't know you can get cold easily if you are deprived of sleep. Getting enough sleep can improve your health and immunity to fight against infectious diseases. It can also help you recover faster.
3. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an effective micro nutrition that can boost resistance against many infectious diseases like common cold. You need high amount of vitamin c regularly because it is not stored in our body for longer period. Vitamin C can also shorten the duration of illness.
4. Avoid Contact with the patient
Patient should be kept in isolation for one week to stop the spreading of infection among others. One should not sleep and spend time for longer period with the infected person.
5. Use handkerchief while sneezing
According to the study covering face with handkerchief while sneezing can prevent virus from spreading in air but one should throw that handkerchief in the trash after sneezing. You can also use tissue paper for replacing again. Never sneeze by covering your mouth or wash your hands immediately after doing so.
6. Wear Mask
This is one of the effective method to prevent cold. Wear mask in crowd area if you have to spend time there. Wear mask while working with dust.
7. Drink a lot of water
Dehydration can make you vulnerable to catch cold So try to drink a lot of water to hydrate yourself. Sip on sugarless green tea and hot lemon water can do wonder.
8. Use a humidifier
Use humidifier in dry air condition to reduce nasal irritation.
9. Physical exercise
Outdoor activity and physical exercise can help one from catching common cold. Physical exercise can strengthen immunity provides energy and keeps colds at bay.
